A showroom of gleaming classic and collectible cars was the setting for the third annual Childhelp Drive the Dream Gala-Orange County, held in conjunction with the 41st Annual Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction.
The sold-out event was held on Wednesday, June 20 at the Orange County Fairgrounds and Event Center in Costa Mesa, and successfully netted $325,000 for services benefitting California's children in crisis.
"My family and I hold a special place in our hearts for this charity and recognize that every child deserves a happy and healthy childhood," says Craig Jackson, Chairman and CEO of Barrett-Jackson Auction Company. "Working with Childhelp over the past seven years has allowed us to spread the word and open eyes on the importance of meeting the needs of abused, neglected and at-risk children."
Barrett-Jackson and Childhelp join forces each year to put on an extraordinary evening of fun complete with a silent and live auction, dining, entertainment and dancing. Themed "A Night of American Dreams," guests were encouraged to wear "red, white and denim" which was a welcome dress code especially for all the men in the room who donned their finest Levi's.
Mistress of Ceremonies for the evening was broadcast journalist Sandie Newton who gracefully guided the evening. Julian Movsesian, owner of Succession Capital Alliance, was the event's Honorary Chair and took to the stage to encourage the crowd as iconic Barrett-Jackson auctioneer Spanky Assiter presided over the evening's spirited live auction.
Special awards were given out during the evening by Childhelp Co-Founders, Sara O'Meara and Yvonne Fedderson, who started the organization back in 1959.
Julian and Aleen Movsesian were presented with the Childhelp Philanthropic Award for their commitment and generosity towards children's causes.
The Childhelp Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Patti Edwards for her hard work and dedication to Childhelp for more than 30 years.
Once the live auction ended, guests enjoyed a resounding performance by Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis Jr., with an incredible repertoire of R&B classics and hits from throughout their illustrious career, keeping the crowd on their feet.
For 53 years, Childhelp has brought the light of hope and healing into the lives of countless children through its programs and services which also include residential treatment; children's advocacy centers; therapeutic foster care; group homes and child abuse prevention, education and training.
Thanks to many of the people in attendance last Wednesday, and those who provide ongoing support, let's hope Childhelp can carry on its vital work for another 53.
