Childhelp is proud to announce that our very own Dr. Cindy Knott, Vice President of Prevention Programs, was appointed to Governor Jan Brewer’s Arizona Child Safety Task Force on Nov. 1, 2011. Charged with developing a plan for child safety reform in Arizona by Dec. 31, this task force brings together 19 experts in the field such as Maricopa County Attorney Bill Montgomery, who will serve as Chairman of the Task Force, and DES Director Clarence Carter as Vice Chairman.
In the past few years, Arizona has seen an increase in child abuse cases and child fatalities due to abuse. The problem has only become more apparent in recent months with some highly publicized child deaths. This task force brings together some of the best and most experienced child safety experts in Arizona to find a solution to this escalating state issue.
“I am humbled by the appointment and honored to represent Childhelp on the Governor’s Child Safety Task Force,” said Dr. Knott. “I look forward to the potential the group possesses in advocating for children and making a difference in their lives. Governor Brewer’s formation of the task force is sending a powerful message to the community, state and nation that Arizona is aggressively reviewing and addressing the problem and taking action to improve all aspects of keeping our children safe.”
The task appointed to this group by the Governor is to make recommendations on reform of statutory, organizational, management or protocol of children’s welfare while in state custody.
“There can be no higher priority than the safety of children under state supervision,” said Governor Brewer. “I’ve assembled the best child-safety experts in Arizona in order to review state procedures and identify ways to help the agency perform at the highest level. With the expertise of law enforcement, physicians, victim advocates and others who’ve devoted their lives to child safety, we can ensure that our state safeguards are the most effective possible.”
