A 12 year old female called the hotline quite distressed (very tearful, nervous). She had seen the Hotline number on a poster. She told the counselor that her father had been abusing her physically for quite some time. She stated that he also hit her mom a lot. When this young girl called, her father had just hit her, leaving slap marks on her face and bumps on her head. He also hit her mother, and then both her father and mother left the house so she picked up the phone and called the Hotline. The counselor spent time consoling the child, and then talked her through the different options she had for help. This girl had not called and told anyone prior to this call about the physical abuse that has been occurring.
After talking with the counselor for some time, the young girl reported that she knew her options and was comfortable ending the call and accessing help. Typically, because the Hotline is anonymous, we do not hear results. However, in this instance, the young girl called back later that day and informed a counselor that she had called the police and they ultimately came and arrested her father when he came home. This young girl wanted us to know she was safe and also wanted to thank the counselor that helped her in this difficult situation.
