Real Life Stories From The Hotline

Woman calling hotlineA mother called the Childhelp National Child Abuse Hotline 1-800-4-A-CHILD (1-800-422-4453) saying she had been making some terrible choices, losing her temper, and getting angry with her preschooler.  She felt it escalating and really wanted to get help. The previous day was an especially hard day because her husband has been traveling and she felt alone. The Hotline counselor was able to discuss some breathing techniques, relaxation exercises and tips for recognizing when she’s getting to the point of “losing it.” She helped her come up with strategies for calming herself down, such as giving herself a time out.  The counselor provided her with resources in her community, such as a family crisis support center, and spoke to her about calling us back when she felt like she might be “losing it.”

She was very grateful to be able to have support available to her whenever she needs it!
