Yvonne Vo - Story of a Childhelp Wings Ambassador

Before Childhelp, I was always aware of children less fortunate than I was but it wasn’t until my encounter with this organization that I was shown the drastic take on child abuse. Basically, at 17 and still almost considered a child myself, it’s difficult to grasp or yet alone be aware of such instances occurring but that fact of life is that it does. It was in August of 2011 that I stumbled upon Childhelp through Booboo and Fivel Stewart’s Benefit Concert in Tustin/Irvine. With time to spare, my aunt and I approached the table where Lisa Evans was sitting and received a pamphlet. For a while, it remained on my table but one day out of sudden urge, I visited the website and became interested. For a long time, I have wanted to be a part of something beyond myself, that I know can make a difference in lives, and Childhelp Wings was exactly it.

Since my entrance into Childhelp Wings as a member/ambassador, I have started a club at my high school and began to spread the word about Childhelp with the National Hotline Campaign as my first activity. I realize that many individuals in the Orange County area may not be aware of the National Childhelp Hotline or the organization itself, and that is what I aim to do. To raise the popularity of Childhelp as well as awareness of child abuse through activities. As of right now, we are working on fundraisers at popular food restaurants as well as selling t shirts and bracelets to raise as much as we can. I may be new to Childhelp and I may still be getting the hang of things, but I hope the hard work will pay off with gaining interest in individuals to join and sign up in Childhelp Wings.

Yvonne’s story is just one of many stories that recount how young men and women around the nation have begun to make a real difference in the lives of children who are hurting. Childhelp Wings is a program designed to inspire, empower, engage and equip youth and young adults to join Childhelp in the prevention and treatment of child abuse. Childhelp Wings members strengthen their schools and communities by raising awareness about the issues and types of abuse that affect kids, as well as organize small fundraisers that support the lifesaving programs and services that Childhelp provides to those in need.

In order to put an end to child abuse and neglect across the nation, we need your help. The effort of every individual matters, and Wings members demonstrate the power to affect great change when the effort of one joins the efforts of many.
