Christmas Stocking Donation for Arizona Children’s Center
Former Children’s Center volunteer, Alice Wedemeyer and the ladies of the “Sit and Sew” group of Cave Creek donated 162 of these beautifully handmade Christmas stockings. The word of the their project spread and the group of six was able to gather additional donations including bags full of stocking stuffers, toiletries, socks, coloring books, crayons, toothpaste and toothbrushes.
Alice and friends said it made them “just feel good” to do this and was so fun! The ladies have been getting together on Tuesdays at Old World Quilts in Cave Creek since September to sew the stockings for Childhelp as they sit and talk about anything and everything! They have done several other charitable sewing projects in the past, including sewing pillow cases for pediatric patients at a children’s hospital.
The ladies took a field trip in to Phoenix this past Tuesday to drop off the stockings at the center and take a tour of the facility. They were overwhelmed and so touched to learn how the little project they took on was going to brighten children’s lives in a very special way this holiday season.
We are so happy to have this special donation. My hope is to have a couple more sponsors/groups donate about 50-75 more so we are able to give a stocking to every child who visits our center in the two weeks leading up to Christmas. That would be wonderful!
