Ad Council launches child abuse campaign highlighting Childhelp
“We very pleased and proud that the Ad Council has chosen to support Childhelp in this nationwide campaign,” said Sara O’Meara, co-founder and CEO of Childhelp. “Partnering with the Ad Council on this three-year project will help spread awareness and action against child abuse and will offer hope to the many children coping with this intolerable pain.”
The Childhelp National Child Abuse Hotline, which is dedicated to the prevention of child abuse and receives nearly 200,000 calls each year, operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Serving the United States, Canada, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico and Guam, the hotline is staffed with professional crisis counselors who are able to provide crisis intervention, information, literature and referrals to thousands of emergency, social service and other support agencies in 140 different languages.
“The crucial awareness that this national campaign will generate will have such a positive impact, offering vital information and assistance for those children who need help the most,” added Yvonne Fedderson, co-founder and president of Childhelp.
The Ad Council – a private, non-profit organization – has endeavored to improve the lives of all Americans since first creating the category of public service advertising in 1942. From its earliest efforts including “Loose Lips Sink Ships” to the more recent “Don’t Almost Give,” Ad Council PSAs have been raising awareness, inspiring action and saving lives for more than 65 years.
“We are proud to renew our partnership with Childhelp to prevent the abuse of children in our country,” said Peggy Conlon, president and CEO of the Ad Council. “Awareness of the national hotline will have a significant impact on keeping our children safe.”
CEO and Co-Founder Sara O’Meara and President and Co-Founder Yvonne Fedderson started Childhelp in 1959, establishing it as a leading national non-profit organization dedicated to helping victims of child abuse and neglect and at-risk children. Childhelp’s approach focuses on advocacy, prevention, treatment and community outreach.
In addition to the Childhelp National Child Abuse Hotline, other Childhelp programs and services include residential treatment services; children’s advocacy centers; therapeutic foster care; group homes and child abuse prevention, education and training. Childhelp also created the National Day of Hope®, held each April during National Child Abuse Prevention Month that mobilizes people across America to join the fight against child abuse.
