Media Headliners Grab Stage in Washington
10/02/2006
Participating media luminaries also included: Chris Matthews (MSNBC), Kathleen Matthews (ABC 7 News), Kelli Arena (CNN) Dana Bash (CNN), Steve Handelsman (NBC News), Doug Hill (ABC 7 Meteorologist), Brian Van de Graf (ABC 7), Megyn Kendall (Fox News Channel), and Jessica Yellin (ABC White House Correspondent).
“It was a great hit – everyone tossed aside any hint of bashfulness and went for the high notes during their turns at the mike. The main thing is that the event spotlights and helps abused children in our country, which too many people don’t realize is an escalating problem, “said ABC’s Cooper. “Four children die from abuse every day in our country, and so the media community banded together and created a platform supporting those who have made it their mission to try and stop it. We wanted to raise awareness for Childhelp – it’s simply the best organization I’ve ever worked with.”
Childhelp, based in Scottsdale, Ariz., is one of the leading national non-profits dedicated to the prevention and treatment of child abuse and neglect. Co-founders and 2006 Nobel Peace Prize Nominees Sara O’Meara and Yvonne Fedderson were on-hand to savor the festivities.
“We were amazed at the level of warmth and laughter throughout the evening, and so touched by the passion for helping children that filled the night,” said Sara O’Meara. “Childhelp is committed to healing the broken spirits and lives of children who have suffered abuse. We are thrilled that so many wonderful people made this important event a success for the children.”
Event sponsors included Verizon Wireless, St. John, Freddie Mac Foundation, Deloitte, AIG, Adeler Jewelers, FBR and Wachovia.
