Childhelp: How did you originally get involved with Childhelp?
Evie: I wanted to do something to help. So I went online and came across Childhelp on Facebook. I really like the work they do in helping abused children and have been involved ever since.
Are you planning on running the 5k or the one mile? Do you run in your day to day life?
I’m going to run the 5k. I don’t run daily but do run when I can.
What motivated you to participate in the Walk/Run? Are you running for someone in particular?
I participate in the run because its a great cause and a really good way to raise money for the children in Childhelp. I’m running for every child I’ve read about or heard about on the news. They all have a special place in my heart.
We heard you were at the Run the Course event last year. What was your favorite part of the event?
My favorite part of the run was receiving a wrist band with a child’s name along with their story which signified who you were running for. It made it more personal and I even kept my wrist band and story from last year. I want to always remember why I run the course.
You have already started raising money for Childhelp through your personal fundraising page that you set up, including a sponsorship from Wal-Mart! How do you recommend that other participants go about raising money?
Upload your fundraising page to your Facebook account so all your friends have a chance to donate. Email it to your family and friends. Ask your co-workers, church members even go to your local busniesses. Ask everyone. If you don’t ask you won’t know if they’ll be willing to help and stand with you in this fight against child abuse.
We have supporters all across the country who are participating in a virtual Run the Course in their hometowns since they can’t make it to Scottsdale for the event. Do you have any recommendations for them on how to get their friends and families involved?
Organize a walk or run in your area, maybe even a hike with your family and friends. It doesn’t have to be huge just a group of friends that want to show their support in their area. You could also donate money to your local children centers and if you have children of your own you could donate their gently used clothes or items to your local children centers as well. Children need our help everywhere not just here in Arizona.
