Brian's Story

Brian arrived at the Merv Griffin Village on a cold October morning, staring at the world around him with eyes that were alert and frightened….

When ten-year-old Gerardo walked into the Merv Griffin Village intake office, his deep brown eyes couldn’t settle on anything. They darted from one face to the next, then to the door, as though he was continuously assessing who might attack him, whether or not he could win the fight and how quickly he could escape the room.

Changing Plans

The Birmingham’s had only intended to provide short-term foster care, but knowing that they had been remembered and requested, the family agreed to adopt the boys.

We can’t imagine life without Thomas. I can’t go back in time and cradle him when he first cried, but I can make sure he’ll never be alone again. If everyone who could reached out to one child, no child would ever have to be alone again.”
