This past April, Childhelp announced the addition of a new prevention program: Connect to Protect Kids (CTPK). Since that time, we have fully developed the program and are proud to announce we are beginning a pilot as we prepare for a full national launch later this year. CTPK is designed to educate and empower adults to prevent child sexual abuse, exploitation, trafficking, and other types of interpersonal, peer, and online harm.
The addition of CTPK and aligning it with our existing youth-focused program, Childhelp Speak Up Be Safe (CH SUBS), offers an innovative prevention system of integrated prevention education programs for adults and youth. “For years, prevention programs have often focused on one group or the other — either equipping children with the knowledge to stay safe or educating adults on how to recognize and prevent abuse. But we know that true prevention requires a community-wide approach,” says Childhelp Chief Operating Officer Michael Medoro. “By aligning CTPK and SUBS, we’re uniting these efforts to create a more comprehensive and effective strategy.”
CTPK was founded by a collaborative partnership of four organizations committed to developing a better solution for community prevention needs; the Center for Violence Prevention Research, Georgia Center for Child Advocacy, Illuminate Colorado, and Protect Our Children. CTPK’s innovative, adult-focused prevention training will emphasize working with communities to design solutions that reflect their unique needs and challenges.
With these aligned programs, schools, organizations and communities will have access to:
• Top quality prevention curricula designed for children and adults
• Adaptable trainings and resources to meet the unique needs of diverse populations
• A comprehensive, integrated solution to help create safer environments for children
We’re excited to help set a new standard for prevention education. By providing adaptable programs and resources, we’re not just addressing the needs of today — we’re building stronger, safer communities for future generations,” says Childhelp Vice President of Growth and Prevention Dr. Stacy Vaughan. “Together, in partnership with organizations and communities across the country, we will show that prevention is possible,” Vaughan says.
CTPK is being piloted in seven states: Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, Oregon, and Tennessee and is expected to launch nationally this summer.
