Abuse doesn’t take a summer break

Summer is a season of fun for many, but for vulnerable children, it’s often a time of heightened danger. Without school, many kids lose their most consistent safety net — trusted adults like teachers, counselors, and coaches who are trained to notice and report signs of abuse. With fewer check-ins. less structure and more unsupervised time online, children are more vulnerable than ever.

“I called the hotline, and for the first time, I felt like someone cared. The counselor helped me figure out what to do and how to create a safety plan. I don’t know where we’d be without that call.”

— Anonymous child, 12 years old

Your support is a lifeline

Here’s what makes summer so risky:

  • Fewer mandatory reporters: Teachers make the majority of abuse reports during the school year. In summer, that lifeline disappears.
  • Increased online danger: The FBI estimates more than 500,000 predators are online at any given time.
  • Isolation and stress: Financial strain, lack of childcare, and limited support can increase the risk of abuse — and reduce the likelihood it’s reported.

That’s why the Childhelp National Child Abuse Hotline is so critical. Available 24/7, it provides immediate, confidential support to children in crisis.

Just $22 helps one child get the support they need.
