When Eli* arrived at Childhelp in early 2022, the home he entered had already closed a meaningful chapter. The Resource Parents had welcomed four children through foster care, children who were now happily adopted into their forever families. They weren’t planning to open their hearts again.

But something in Eli’s story stopped them. They welcomed him into their home, even knowing the road ahead would not be easy. Adjusting was hard. New routines, new faces, and a household still settling after previous transitions made trust difficult. But the Resource Parents met him with patience, care, and steady love. Day by day, Eli began to open up. He smiled more, laughed more, and finally found rest, a sense of safety he had not known before.

Months later, a family member was identified, and Eli was scheduled for reunification. Saying goodbye was bittersweet.

And when that placement did not work out, the Resource Parents didn’t hesitate. They welcomed him back immediately, and this time their bond grew even stronger. Through it all, they became more than caregivers. They were his safe place, his advocates, and his family. When adoption became an option, everyone agreed that Eli had already found his forever home. Even his biological mother saw it. She gave her blessing, knowing he was exactly where he belonged.

Eli’s story reminds us that love, patience, and courage can change a child’s life forever. Every child deserves a home where they feel safe, seen, and loved.
